If you’ve ever wished that you had more hours in your day to get everything done, you’re not alone. Many real estate professionals work themselves into a tizzy trying to squeeze as much as they can into their workdays, only to end up feeling overwhelmed and frazzled. After all, in order to be successful, you have to be busy all the time, flitting from appointment to appointment and activity to activity like an over-caffeinated bee, right?
Not so much. The most successful people may be busy, but they don’t feel overwhelmed. They know how to manage their time. Since they feel that their time is precious, they find ways to use it more efficiently. Here are a few tips:
1. Assess your schedule. If you’re feeling so overwhelmed by demands and appointments, take a step back and assess your schedule. What’s taking up the most time? Do your appointments tend to run over the time you’ve allotted for them? Are you overcommitting yourself because you don’t want to let other people down? Although it may be helpful to commit to fewer things during the day, if that’s not possible, then schedule wiggle room in your day to reduce the stress of rushing everywhere.
2. Schedule the difficult tasks for your peak productive time. It’s easier to get the tough stuff finished when your mind is the sharpest. Although for many people this is first thing in the morning, for others it may be later in the morning or in the afternoon. What time of day do you feel that your mind is the most focused? Plan your daily proactive lead generation—or other business-driving activities—for this time to get the most done.
3. Use small chunks of time wisely. Chances are you have 10 or 15 minutes between appointments during the day. Use this time to decompress, prepare for your next appointment or to do the small tasks that don’t take up much time. This is a great time to make a lead generating phone call or two, touch bases with a client or write a few personal notes.
