3 Ways to Create a Successful Routine
1. Choose an activity that is triggered by the old cue and delivers the new reward. For example, if you want to get in shape, but find yourself snacking on unhealthy food during your mid-afternoon energy lull, take a walk instead. Exercise will give you the energy you need to finish the afternoon on a productive note and it’ll also prevent you from eating for the sake of eating.
2. Write a plan. When you write a plan, you’re more likely to do it. Keeping with the previous example, if your goal is to get fit, plan to go to the gym three days a week. Write it into your schedule—in ink so that you’ll stick to it.
3. Track your activities. Tracking your activities allows you to stay accountable to yourself. It also helps you see your progress and maintain perspective.
